Welcome to the CIPHR ThinkTank Building Fund Page!
The nonprofit CryptoRights Foundation (CRF), a small human rights technology organization nearing it’s 30th anniversary, needs your help. CRF’s work involves using advanced cryptography to protect the digital privacy of the general public, journalists, war crimes inspectors, environmental researchers & human rights lawyers (to list just a few) from unethical corporations, savage drug cartels, lawless government agencies, rogue military forces, terrorists and other organized criminal organizations. Most recently, we’ve been helping to protect/authenticate a staggering volume of the ICC’s digital evidence from war crimes investigations in Ukraine. We also support the academic freedoms of security technology researchers and privacy whistleblowers and we continue to engage in a variety of public benefit research and privacy activism/education projects.
We are currently trying to build the first building(s) at our nonprofit R&D thinktank property in Lake County (Project Red and Project Indigo below). Project Red is a ‘tiny house’ staff building (450 square feet) for meetings/etc , with Project Indigo being the adjacent storage container units housing our computers, privacy tech bench (and our mini maker shop). We created a very modest design to keep the costs very low, but our budget, after the many impacts of the COVID pandemic on our longtime donors (a few passed away), is down to the bare metal. A wonderful team of local contractors, engineers and tradesmen is donating labor, but due to tariffs and other economic factors, we are struggling to afford all of the building materials they need to work with (e.g. concrete, plastic pipe, framing wood, windows/doors, exterior finishes and roof structure). We recently completed the required septic system and are starting on the foundation.

So, we are seeking donations, whether large or small and either financial or material, to help us complete this small first building.
As a 501c3 nonprofit, we can offer donors both a tax-deductible charitable donation receipt and being listed on a special CIPHR webpage decicated to our patrons, supporters, and construction volunteers.
After almost three decades of service to human beings and their rights around the world by our all–volunteer officers, fieldworkers, activists, researchers and developers, we are hoping a bit of love can flow back in our team’s direction. We’ve never charged our NGO clients or the Public for our work or for the devices we’ve made for them, nor have we sought credit or praise (we are, after all cryptographers who like to “hide in plain sight”), we just do the work to keep others safe whenever/wherever we can be of service.
